As American families endure $4 a gallon gas during their Labor Day weekend travel, Republican moderates will gather at the Republican National Convention to offer centrist solutions to lower gas prices and end America’s dependence on foreign oil.

Former New Jersey Governor Christine Todd Whitman, who also served as the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, will offer her first-hand perspective on the tough choices America faces in terms of energy and natural resources and the lack of easy answers to the problem.

Congressman Mark Kirk, co-chair of the Republican moderates in the House, will advocate decreasing America's dependence on foreign oil by 86% and boosting renewable energy resources by 228% by establishing and expanding several key alternative energy and conservation tax incentives.

Congressman Fred Upton, the ranking Republican on the key House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality, will advocate a comprehensive “all-of-the-above” approach to cutting gas prices and increasing domestic oil production by 2.5 million barrels per day.

Reihan Salam, an Associate Editor at the Atlantic and acclaimed co-author of “Grand New Party: How Republicans Can Win the Working Class and Save the American Dream,” will provide some background on what caused gas prices to skyrocket with a focus on environmental regulations and poor government planning. He will also present a roadmap toward a pro-growth energy strategy for Republicans.

Martha Marks, President of the Republicans for Environmental Protection, will discuss the need for the Republican Party to return to its Teddy Roosevelt environmental roots and the growing influence of “Green Republicans” in Congress.
